The MusicBee download page lists version 3.6.9668, released 20 June 2026, for Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11. On the check date of 23 October 2026 that release was 125 days old. The page offers two editions, an Installer Edition that installs MusicBee on the Windows system drive and a Portable Edition that can sit elsewhere, such as another partition or a USB drive.

The download page lists no price and mentions only an optional donation, and the home page says "it's free".

Editions

EditionWhat the download page says
Installer EditionInstalls MusicBee on your Windows system drive
Portable EditionCan be installed in other locations, such as another partition or a USB drive

Scope: getmusicbee.com/downloads, read 23 Oct 2026. The page shows one version and one date. It states no .NET requirement and no file sizes.

What the release notes page shows

The download page links a "Release Notes" page, and that page listed only two entries when it was read: version 3.0.6132 from 15 October 2016, which fixed artist biographies, the Now Playing panel's picture and a freeze when moving files to an organised folder, and version 3.0.6067 from 13 August 2016. Both are about ten years older than the current download. The release notes page is therefore not a usable change history for the current version, and this page does not use it for anything newer.

That leaves one dated fact about the current release. The pages do not say how often the developer ships updates or what 3.6.9668 changed, so check the developer's release link before relying on a specific recent feature.

What the pages leave open

  • No explicit price on the download page, which mentions only a donation; the home page says it is free.
  • No licence text and no statement about the installer carrying other software.
  • No feature list on the download page; the features below come from the home page.
  • No history of earlier versions on the pages we could read.

What the home page says it does

The home page says "Get MusicBee, you will never go back. And it's free!" Its listed features are the reason to read it.

AreaWhat the home page states
LibraryAuto-tagging to clean up disorganised music libraries
SyncPlaylists and podcasts sync to devices, audiobooks sync both ways; Android and Windows Phone 8.1 and later are named
AudioA 10 or 15-band equaliser, DSP effects, WASAPI and ASIO support, gapless playback
SourcesPodcasts, web radio, SoundCloud integration and native Groove Music support
CustomisingIncluded skins, more skins and plugins in an add-ons section, and support for some WinAmp plugins
ResourcesAbout 25 to 70 MB of RAM with skins and add-ons, package under 10 MB, tested on MusicBee 3 with about 200 albums (roughly 3 GB)

Scope: getmusicbee.com, read 23 Oct 2026. The memory figure is the developer's own test on an older version, so it is not a measurement of 3.6.9668. The page does not mention ReplayGain, only volume normalisation for streaming.

Reading the version numbers

The only older version on the release notes page is 3.0.6132, dated 15 October 2016. The current download is 3.6.9668. The last number in each, 6132 and 9668, is a build counter, and it rose by 3,536 over the ten years between the two dates, which works out to roughly one build every day. That is our arithmetic on two printed numbers, and it is not a statement from the developer about release frequency. What it does show is that MusicBee has been developed continuously across that span, with 3.6 as the current line.

Before you install: a short check

  • Choose Installer if you want a normal program-files install, or Portable if you want to keep MusicBee off the system drive or carry it on a USB drive.
  • Check your Windows version. The page lists 7, 8, 10 and 11, with no mention of earlier versions.
  • Use the page's own download link and read each setup screen.
  • Back up your library files before importing them into any new player, as a general habit.
