The current stable AIMP for Windows is version 5.40.2727, released on 8 September 2026, according to the AIMP download page. A beta, version 6.00.3092 Beta 7, was released on 22 October 2026, and the page warns that it is a "test version of the application, it may contain a lot of bugs!" The stable version was 45 days old on the check date of 23 October 2026.
AIMP's page lists Windows Vista or newer for the stable version, in x86 and x86-64 builds. The beta adds arm64ec and a separate ARM build. The page gives no price.

Stable release history
| Version | Date | Days since the previous |

| 5.40.2727 | 8 Sep 2026 | 15 |
| 5.40.2725 | 24 Aug 2026 | 54 |

| 5.40.2716 | 21 Apr 2026 | 10 |
| 5.40.2715 | 11 Apr 2026 | Not computed |
Computed from the dates above, with beta and release candidate builds excluded: gaps of 10, 71, 54 and 15 days, an average of 38 days. The changelog for 5.40.2727 lists an update to the WebLyrics providers list, a fix for a VST issue where some plugins ignored sample rate changes, a fix for an Invalid Window Handle error in the plugin API, and fixes from incoming crash reports.
All five stable builds listed sit inside the 5.40 line, so the recent updates are maintenance builds. The beta moves to 6.00, which suggests the next major version is being tested in public. The page does not say when a stable 6.00 will arrive.
What the page leaves open
The download page does not state a price or a licence and does not describe features beyond the update notes. The changelog items point to a plugin system, with mentions of VST and a plugin API, and to lyrics support through WebLyrics providers, but the pages we read give no feature overview, so we make no further claim. The beta and stable lines are separate downloads, and the page warns that the beta may contain many bugs.
What AIMP's home page shows
The home page is mostly news and navigation, and it labels AIMP a free audio player in its metadata, with the keyword "freeware". It credits "Artem Izmaylov 2006-2026" and marks AIMP's 20th anniversary. It lists the PC version for Windows and Linux, an Android version (4.31.1747, dated 10 September 2026) and the AIMP6 PC beta, which it says is "capable to run on Linux without Wine!".
Add-ons are catalogued as Skins, Icons, Plugins, Encoders and Wallpapers. The page does not spell out supported audio formats, a tag editor or a converter, and the feature screenshots are images, so this page makes no claim about them. A note for Android in the news says each output device now has its own custom equalizer preset.
Beta, Android and the PC line
The 6.00 beta was one day old on the check date, and the page says it can run on Linux without Wine, which the stable Windows download does not claim. The Android version, 4.31.1747, is dated 10 September 2026, two days after the PC stable build of 8 September. The two apps share a name and a developer and have separate version numbers, so a version on one says nothing about the other. This directory lists only the Windows program.
Before you install: a short check
- Choose 64-bit unless your system is 32-bit. The 64-bit installer is 21.0 MB.
- Use the build without the installer if you want a portable copy. The page offers one for each architecture.
- Skip the beta for everyday use. The developer's own warning says it may contain many bugs.
- Check your Windows version: Vista or newer is the stated floor for the stable build.
Audio players side by side
| Player | Windows floor stated | Price statement | Latest listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| foobar2000 | Windows 7 or newer | Freeware | 2.26.1 stable (9 Oct 2026) |
| MusicBee | Windows 7, 8, 10, 11 | Home page: free | 3.6.9668 (20 Jun 2026) |
| AIMP | Windows Vista or newer | Labelled free in metadata | 5.40.2727 stable (8 Sep 2026) |
Scope: each player's own pages on this site, read 23 Oct 2026. AIMP is the only one of the three that names Vista, one generation below the other two.
Why the Windows floor matters here
AIMP names Windows Vista as its oldest supported system, which is older than the Windows 7 floor that foobar2000 and MusicBee state. A reader with an old PC may therefore find AIMP the only one of the three whose page covers it. The stable download is also small, at 17.7 MB for 32-bit and 21.0 MB for 64-bit, though the page does not say how much memory it uses.
Alternatives in this directory
foobar2000 and MusicBee are the other audio-first players, both free. VLC media player covers video and music in one program. If you also want a video player with deep controls, mpv and MPC-HC are the options here, and 7-Zip opens music archives.
