The current WizTree for Windows is version 4.33, dated 16 September 2026 on the developer's download page. It is made by Antibody Software Limited and is free for personal use only, under the terms of its licence agreement. Businesses need a supporter code, so the right download depends on who the computer belongs to as much as on the version.

WizTree is a disk space analyzer: it lists and maps what is using space on a drive. The developer's guide says fast scanning of the file table needs administrator rights, and it covers search and duplicate detection.

Scope: diskanalyzer.com download page, read 23 Oct 2026. The page shows only truncated SHA-256 values for each file, so full hashes have to come from elsewhere if you want to verify a download.

The page lists 32-bit and 64-bit builds for Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and Server (2003 and later), and says Arm devices are supported through Prism emulation. That is a wider range than most programs in this directory. The page does not mention bundled or third-party software in the installer, and this page cannot say whether the installer includes any.

The version dated 16 September was 37 days old on the check date of 23 October 2026. A single dated release does not show a cadence, and the developer's version history page could not be loaded when this page was written, so no earlier releases are listed here.

Licence: free for personal use only

This is the part of the page that matters most to some readers. The end-user licence agreement says: "WizTree is free for PERSONAL USE ONLY." Personal users are encouraged to buy a supporter code to fund development, but the agreement does not require it.

WhoWhat the agreement says
Personal useFree
A businessA supporter code is needed for each physical business location, with the tier based on the number of staff at the site
Sites with more than 100 staffEnterprise License
Developers bundling WizTree in their own productA Distribution License subscription

Scope: the end-user licence agreement on diskanalyzer.com, read 23 Oct 2026. The agreement is governed by New Zealand law. This is a summary of its wording, not legal advice; check the full text before using the program at work.

The agreement lists copying, distributing or reselling the software for any commercial purpose as not permitted. The licence is described as personal, non-transferable and non-exclusive. An IT contractor may install WizTree on client devices if required, but only for the client organization's use. The developer's site lists a "Renew License" option at 50% off the regular price, but the agreement gives no renewal terms and the pages read show no prices.

Limits the developer's guide states

  • By default only the first 1000 matching search results are shown. The limit can be raised, but showing all results can be slow.
  • Duplicate detection compares name, size and optionally modified date. The guide says WizTree does not compare file contents, so duplicates need checking before anything is deleted.
  • Some features need newer versions: regex search from 4.13, and file-time search and registry-based configuration from 4.27.

What Windows already does

Storage Sense in Windows 10 and 11 cleans temporary files and the Recycle Bin on the system drive, and Microsoft's page says other drives are managed under "Storage used on other drives". It does not draw a treemap of folders. WizTree answers a different question, which is where the space went, and leaves the decision about what to delete to you.

Alternatives in this directory

WinDirStat does the same job as an open-source program under the GPL, with MSI installers and a portable build. The two differ in licence terms, and a reader who needs a tool at work can compare them on that point first. CCleaner and Wise Disk Cleaner remove junk by rule instead of showing a map. Old folders found with a scanner can be packed with 7-Zip.

The macOS edition

WizTree has a macOS sibling, WizTreeMac 1.00, released on the same day as WizTree 4.33 (16 September 2026). The download page lists it as a 4.4 MB disk image requiring macOS 12 (Monterey) or later and supporting both Apple Silicon and Intel. It is also available through Homebrew with the cask antibodysw/tap/wiztree. The page says WizTreeMac includes most of the functionality in WizTree 4.33 and can export CSV files that the Windows version can import.

This directory covers the Windows edition only. The licence terms quoted above come from the Windows end-user agreement, and the pages read do not say whether the Mac edition uses the same terms.
