The current CCleaner for Windows is version 7.13.1573, released on 21 October 2026. On Windows 11, 10 or 8.1 you can use the standard installer from CCleaner's builds page. Windows 7 is different: a CCleaner staff reply in June 2026 said version 7 does not support it, so Windows 7 machines need the older "sunset" installer, which is a version 6.41 build.
Piriform, a London company, makes CCleaner. Avast bought Piriform in July 2017, and the announcement now sits in Gen Digital's press archive. The free edition covers standard cleaning, standard privacy protection and a basic Health Check. The paid editions add automatic cleaning, a driver updater and a performance optimizer.
Which CCleaner download fits your PC
CCleaner's builds page lists four downloads. The version numbers below come from that page and from CCleaner's version history.
| Your situation | Download | Version |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11, 10 or 8.1, normal install | Standard online installer | 7.13.1573 |
| Windows 7 | Sunset release (ccsetup641_win7.exe) | 6.41 |
| No install, run from a folder or USB stick | Portable zip (ccsetup641.zip) | 6.41, going by the file name |
| PC without a steady connection | Offline installer | Not shown on the page |
Scope: builds page and version history, checked 23 Oct 2026. The page says the offline and portable builds are meant for system admins and advanced users and must not be redistributed or mirrored, which is why we link to CCleaner instead of hosting any file.
CCleaner's own pages don't agree on Windows support. The Professional page lists Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 8, 32-bit and 64-bit, Windows on ARM included, and excludes S mode and RT editions. The upgrade page lists Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 7. The staff reply about Windows 7 asked for those older references to be removed, and the release notes for 7.13 mention installation fixes on Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 only. Plain Windows 8 (not 8.1) appears only on the Professional page, so treat it as uncertain.
Version 6 is not finished either. It got a maintenance release, 6.41.11567, on 23 June 2026 to meet EU rules on withdrawing from a contract. Before that, the last version 6 release was in February 2026. Version 7 gets updates every few weeks.
What changed in recent versions
The last four months of releases were mostly fixes. Version 7.12.1526 (29 September) is the one to have at minimum, because its notes list a fix for a file-write security issue, along with a service start-up crash. The same release added an "AI Tools" category to Custom Clean and, according to the notes, made the app open three to six times faster.
Version 7.13.1573 (21 October) fixed install and launch failures on Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 by setting up WebView2, a Microsoft runtime component. It also corrected a misleading status message in Driver Updater. The 7.10 and 7.11 releases in July and August were about screen-reader support, keyboard navigation and onboarding bugs.
Free vs paid editions
This is how CCleaner's plans page splits the features. Each tier includes everything in the tier above it in the table.
| Edition | What it adds | PCs |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Standard cleaning, standard privacy protection, basic Health Check | Not stated |
| Professional | Full Health Check, Google Drive and OneDrive cleaning, Performance Optimizer, Driver Updater, automatic browser history and tracker cleanup, automatic disk-space management, priority support | Not stated |
| Professional Plus | Recuva Pro (deleted-file recovery) and Speccy Pro (system information) | Up to 3 |
| Premium Bundle | 24/7 technical support and Kamo tracking protection | Up to 5 |
Prices on three official pages, same day
We opened three CCleaner pages on 23 October 2026 and each one showed a different price for the same editions. All prices are in US dollars.
| CCleaner page | Professional | Professional Plus | Premium Bundle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plans | $44.95 | $64.95 | $64.95 (was $89.95) |
| Professional | $44.95 | $39.95 (was $64.95) | Not listed |
| Upgrade | $24.95 (was $44.95) | $39.95 (was $64.95) | Not listed |
Scope: list prices as displayed, US dollars, checked 23 Oct 2026. None of the three pages states whether the price is a one-time charge or a yearly subscription, or mentions a refund policy. Check the checkout page and CCleaner's terms before paying.
The upgrade page also says the Free and Professional editions are for home use only. Business use is outside the terms of those two editions.
What Windows already does for free
Several CCleaner jobs have a built-in equivalent in Windows 10 and 11. The right column comes from Microsoft's own support pages.
| Task | Built into Windows |
|---|---|
| Delete temporary and junk files | Storage Sense (cleans temp files and the Recycle Bin on a schedule you pick) and Disk Cleanup |
| Stop apps from launching at sign-in | Task Manager, Startup apps |
| Remove programs | Settings, Installed apps |
| Update drivers | Windows Update, optional driver updates |
| Optimize the drive | Defragment and Optimize Drives |
| Clean the registry | None. Microsoft says it does not support registry cleaners and is not responsible for problems they cause |
Scope: Microsoft Windows support pages on Storage Sense and PC performance, read 23 Oct 2026.
Storage Sense is off by default, though Windows may switch it on by itself when the system drive runs low on space. It only works on the system drive, usually C:. Microsoft's performance tips also point to its own free Microsoft PC Manager app for cleanup and start-up control. CCleaner's case is that it puts these jobs in one window, and its privacy cleaning covers browser history, which is not on the list of things Storage Sense cleans.
Safety record
Two incidents explain why some security tools have treated CCleaner with caution.
- Aug to Sep 2017Attackers got malware into the official CCleaner 5.33 download. Anyone who downloaded or updated to 5.33 between 15 August and 12 September 2017 was affected. Cisco Talos, which found it, advised restoring affected PCs from a backup made before 15 August 2017, because updating CCleaner did not remove the malware.
- July 2020On 29 July 2020 Microsoft announced that Microsoft Defender would flag the free version of CCleaner as a potentially unwanted application. Microsoft said the program itself was not malicious. The issue was the way some free and trial installers offered other software, such as Google Chrome, Google Toolbar, Avast Free Antivirus and AVG AntiVirus Free, with opt-out choices that were easy to miss. CCleaner said it had worked with Microsoft to fix the bundling.
Whether an installer shows an extra offer can change from one build to the next. Download only from ccleaner.com and read each install screen before clicking Next.
Free alternatives
BleachBit is a free, open-source cleaner for Windows 10 and 11 and for Linux. It needs no payment or registration. Its download page was inconsistent on the day we checked: the FAQ named 6.0.4 as the latest stable release while the news list announced 6.0.6. Microsoft PC Manager, mentioned above, is Microsoft's own free option. If the goal is to see what is filling the drive before deleting anything, WizTree and WinDirStat show folder sizes, and an uninstaller such as Revo Uninstaller removes whole programs.
